I made sure Ryan had this number in their cell phone. Ryan called a few times late at night when they sometimes felt lonely.

Henrico Mental Health and Developmental Services is an invaluable resource for youth ages 3-18 experiencing mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, or developmental delays. They serve families in Henrico, Charles City, and New Kent counties and provide Same Day Access for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder services.
When Ryan was in crisis, we turned to this service, and it was an absolute game-changer for our family. The program provided case management, and Ryan had a dedicated case manager who worked closely with us to explore additional and more intensive therapy options that were desperately needed. Their team is deeply committed to stabilizing youth within the community by assessing needs, connecting families to essential services, and coordinating care with other providers.
The responsiveness and genuine care of our case manager stood out—they were a true partner in Ryan’s journey. In addition, if you’re struggling to fund your child’s therapies, they can guide you in accessing financial assistance as well. I can’t recommend this program enough.

Lighthouse Behavioral Health Services offers an extensive range of mental health services and comes highly recommended by many providers in the community. Their services include:
Our family worked with Lighthouse for two services: Virtual Residential in-home services and DBT teen group therapy. The Virtual Residential program brought a team of trained mental health providers into our home for up to 40 hours a week, depending on our needs and schedule. These providers weren’t licensed therapists but were often individuals pursuing their master’s degrees in social work, gaining clinical experience. Just like it sounds, it was a lot, and we went though this not once, but three times (all different companies), within two years following hospitalizations. We were fortunate to have financial support from Henrico Mental Health and Developmental Services, which made this level of care possible.
